4 Phase Approach
Screening: Patients are medically screened to see if it is safe for them to participate in the New Direction Program. The screening process includes a physical examination, review of medical history and laboratory testing.
Reducing (active weight loss): Using four nutritionally complete products daily, participants begin to learn and practice weight management skills without the influence of food.
Adapting: While practicing their newly learned eating and exercise habits, participants gradually transition back to grocery meals.
Maintenance: Continuing support using relapse prevention and individualized meal plans with 1 to 2 products daily helps patients live a healthier lifestyle long-term.
Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD)
A Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) program is a medically supervised, ketogenic weight loss program for patients who are moderately to morbidly obese. Candidates for the program have a BMI over 30 or over 27 with co-morbidities, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and high cholesterol. In general, a VLCD is appropriate for women approximately 40 pounds or more overweight and men approximately 50 pounds or more overweight. Patients experience weight loss of 3-5 lbs per week. Meal replacements are utilized as the sole source of nutrition during active weight loss. Four high-quality, high protein, low carbohydrate meal replacements provide the sole daily source of nutrition during the Reducing Phase.
